Woot--A-ah--Saviour of the universe!

Even with my fairly jaded Gen X sensibility, I still manage to come across something on the net that makes me smile joyously.

Today’s example is WOOT. It is a one item per day bargain site and when the item is sold out, the item is sold out for good (sort of the reverse of those failed buyer aggregation sites that flourished and folded during the internet heyday, such as Mercata and Mobshop. Ah, those internet bubble days and those lovely $50 off a $100 purchase coupons that Mercata threw out to the masses all the time..

First off Woot (or w00t) is leet speak for ‘cool/sweet/awesome/sugoi’. So cool points for that.

Second, the deals are often fairly good and they don't gouge on S/H, although sometime the merch is often a bit old tymey from a tech viewpoint (for example the wireless card below is of 'b' flavor of transmission speed, which is fine but a tad slow by the current 'g' level standard).

Third, and this is my joyous bit, they have terrific fun with the ad copy. Note this write up for a compact flash card/Wi-fi card combo unit for a PC laptop.

It took me a moment to realize it was set to cadence of Flash Gordon by Queen.
